Snímek staví na záběrech natočených v letech 1966 - 1971, tedy od vzniku kapely až do smrti Jima Morrisona. Zobrazuje kým skupina The Doors byla a čím se stala. DiCillo nahlíží do světa slávy, drog a alkoholu, jenž jsou s kapelou spojovány, zaměřuje se ale zároveň na její oddanost rockové hudbě. Vedle výstřelků Jima Morrisona je to také příběh Raye Manzareka, Robbyho Kriegera a Johna Densmora – muzikantů, jejichž důraz na uměleckou svobodu a odmítání kompromisu inspiroval nejednu generaci.

Film bude v kinech uveden společně se speciálním úvodem a novou nahrávkou písně Riders on the Storm. Ve spolupráci s neziskovou organizací Playing For Change v ní na různých exotických místech vystoupí John Densmore a Robby Krieger, ke kterým se přidalo dvacet hudebníků a tanečníků z celého světa. Společně skrze tuto slavnou píseň oslaví 60. výročí skupiny v duchu jednoty, naděje a hudebních spojení, které překračují hranice.

? When You re Strange, written and directed by the award-winning Tom DiCillo, is the first feature documentary released on The Doors. Graced by the narration of Johnny Depp, it carries the audience through the journeys of vocalist Jim Morrison, keyboardist Ray Manzarek, guitarist Robby Krieger, and drummer John Densmore. This 90-minute presentation features never-before-seen rare archival film, pulled from their inception in 1966 to Morrison s passing in 1971. These snapshot scenes of the band s history is as much an intimate experience, as it is revealing. Featured at the Sundance, Berlin, Deauville, and San Sebastian Film Festivals, the film celebrates the collaborative power of this illustrious rock quartet and their revolutionary fusion of creativity and thought-provoking rebellion.
